Activating two-factor authentication
To set up 2FA, you’ll probably need to provide your mobile number or use an authentication app. The service will then send you a confirmation code to verify the setup.
If you want to enable 2FA on your Google account from a computer, for example, follow these steps:
Head to myaccount.google.com and sign in with your email and password
On the left, choose "Security", then scroll to the "How you sign in to Google" heading
Select 2-Step Verification and follow the on-screen instructions.
There's a video showing the various steps in detail below.
For Apple the steps are:
Settings > [Your Name] > "Sign-In & Security" > "Two-Factor Authentication".
For Instagram/Meta it's:
Profile > Menu > "Accounts Center" > "Password and security" > "Two-factor authentication".
Key Tips:
Apps are better: Use an authenticator app rather than SMS, as it is less vulnerable to hacking.
Save Backup Codes: Always save the backup or recovery codes provided during setup in a secure location.
